This film is a quest to unravel the mysteries of Jesus’ lost years (or ‘hidden years’) from ages 12 to 30. The New Testament is silent on those years, however in India there is an ancient tradition that young Jesus joined a caravan and took the Silk Road to the East, where Jesus lived with both Hindus and Buddhists before returning to begin his ministry. The film explores the legends, myths and actual evidence that Jesus’ missing years were partially spent in India. It is loosely based on the book King of Travellers: Jesus’ Lost Years in India by Edward T. Martin, who leads us on a 4,000 mile journey to holy places of many major religions.

The film is remarkable for the scholars and religious authorities who appear on camera, including Princeton professor and Biblical scholar Elaine Pagels, author of the best seller Beyond belief: the Gospel of Thomas. (Professor Pagels was the subject of a full page in Newsweek in its special ‘Women and Leadership’ edition); Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein, Loyola Professor of Jewish Law; the ‘Pope of Hinduism’ (the Shankaracharya) in his first public revelation on this topic (and he insists that Jesus was in India at the 2,500 year old Jagannath Temple in Puri); Monsignor Corrado Balducci (an Apostolic Nuncio of Pope John Paul II) and representatives of Paramahansa Yogananda's Self-Realization Fellowship.

This feature documentary, at its heart, is the story of a quest in India in search of answers to ancient mysteries. The crew confronted all kinds of dangers, from terrorism to inhospitable climates, floods, impassable roads and arduous train travel during India’s summer monsoon. Produced over the course of three years, the film captures the colours, flavours and sounds of India – enhanced by the original musical score by Brian Thomas Lambert.
