In these times of crisis, is change possible? There is an electric charge in the air, a burgeoning renewal amongst both people who have focused their lives on the spiritual, and those whose lives are centered around the struggle for change. Acclaimed filmmaker Velcrow Ripper sets out to discover the power that is released when spirituality and activism meet. Sparked by what Gandhi called ‘soul force’ and Martin Luther King called ‘love in action’, Ripper spotlights remarkable individuals who are taking action from the heart. The film is the revelation of a new global movement of positive, compassionate action.

With stunning cinematography, a compelling soundtrack, and dramatic stories of resistance and transformation, Ripper’s personal quest transcends specific religious faith and embraces an all-encompassing vision of unified humanity, with the civil-rights movement of the ’50s and ’60s as its solid foundation. FIERCE LIGHT illuminates what is possible when human beings are their absolute best . . . a human sunrise.

Charmaine Treherne has been an activist for more than 20 years. She has also been a spiritual adventurer since she was a teenager. Charmaine’s focus is the real-i-zation of Love as taught by the ancient-thought new-wisdom teachers such as Joanna Macy. She facilitates deep ecology workshops and currently attends Agape non-denominational Spiritual Community in Wynberg. Charmaine’s website, Conscious Connections, is a platform for facilitating the emergence of Love in a more deliberate way both in our personal lives and on the planet. A large factor of this includes the re-establishment of community, a turning towards sustainability and release from the religion of capitalism.
